The Edmonton Oilers are still looking to change up their goalie tandem and tonight NHL analyst Jeff Marek suggested a low-risk but high-reward option. Earlier today, the Edmonton Oilers decided to hire a new goaltending coach for the 2025-26 season. The move comes after the Edmonton Oilers goalie duo of Stuart Skinner and Calvin Pickard were a massive let down in two Stanley Cup Finals in a row. Heading into the offseason many fans and analysts shared the sentiment that the Oilers were one good goaltender away from getting over the hump and winning a Stanley Cup. Now, deep into July, the Oilers have not made a change in goal and likely will not until the season begins. With this in mind, NHL analyst Jeff Marek suggested that the Edmonton Oilers should try and acquire Bruins goaltender Michael DiPietro.
Analyst Jeff Marek Urges The Edmonton Oilers To Acquire Michael DiPietro
During a recent appearance on Oilersnation Everyday, Marek spoke about Michael DiPietro being a prime option for the Oilers via a potential waiver claim. I'd be looking at a goaltender that you know, by the name of Michael DiPietro, who many people wrote off because he was on the taxi squad and he spent a lot of time not playing and developing. Despite missing that crucial development time Marek believes that the risk could be worth the reward when it comes to DiPietro. But he needs waivers as well and had an outstanding season last year for Providence and I wonder if the Bruins will run into a similar situation as the Canucks recently with Silovs.

Loading from Twitter ...

After being drafted 64th overall by the Vancouver Canucks DiPietro struggled to find his way in three seasons in the organization making just 2 NHL appearances. DiPietro has spent the last two seasons in the AHL with the Providence Bruins developing his craft and significantly improving. In the 2024-25 season, DiPietro was lights out in the AHL playing 40 games with a 2.05 goals against average and. 0.927 save percentage. At just 26 years old, DiPietro has plenty of development runway ahead of him and could prove to be a fantastic duo to go along with Stuart Skinner long-term.
