The Connor McDavid saga is one that has the attention of everyone in the NHL, and now Stan Bowman has revealed a new update heading into training camp. For much of the 2025 NHL off-season, Edmonton Oilers fans have been waiting patiently to hear about the next contract for their superstar captain Connor McDavid. Unfortunately, a new deal hasn't gotten done yet, despite recent comments from their superstar centre that he wants nothing more than to win in Edmonton, and with the 2025/26 season rapidly approaching, seemingly nothing has changed with his status as of yet.
GM Stan Bowman gives an update on McDavid talks
On Friday, Stan Bowman joined TSN to discuss the contract and the future of the Oilers captain, and while nothing is imminent, the General Manager has revealed there's still confidence that it will get done sooner, rather than later. Well, I think, you know, Connor's been pretty open about his thoughts, and I don't want to speak for him, but I think there's really no secrets or there's not any more to the story other than he's just taking his time, and we respect that, we understand. He's obviously the best player in the game, and we love having him here, and he's our captain and our leader and we're excited about that, excited about this season and I think he's just working through things on his own, and we kind of understand that. So, we'll be patient, but he knows that we love having him here and we want him to remain in Edmonton and that's kind of the process that we're going through right now.

Loading from Twitter ...

The main takeaway from this whole situation is that the Oilers aren't worried he's ready to leave, but are simply giving McDavid the time and space to work through things on his own, revealing that the captain has been very up front about everything. Barring a shock change, it's more likely than not that a deal will get done soon, but with so many options out there regarding McDavid, nothing can be assumed at this point in time.
