NHL insider Jeff Marek has linked the Oilers to two forwards of the Blue Jackets in order to help move things along to build the team's third line.

Edmonton Oilers' forward Andrew Mangiapane remains on the radar of NHL clubs. The Oilers scratched Mangiapane for the second straight game, a 4-3 comeback win over the Winnipeg Jets, on Thursday.
Even with the interest, a deal doesn't seem imminent. There's chatter, but the specifics haven't been hammered out, according to Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman on Friday's episode of the 32 Thoughts podcast.
Friedman has previously mentioned the Anaheim Ducks as a possible destination, which could signal a return to Edmonton for Ryan Strome, who has six points in 23 games this season.

What Jeff Marek revealed about a possible trade with the Blue Jackets

Jeff Marek, on Daily Faceoff's The Sheet, talked through the situation on 'Oilersnation Everyday' on Thursday, throwing out a potential deal with the Columbus Blue Jackets.
Re Oilers: "I wonder if there's a Boone Jenner slash Charlie Coyle something they can do with the Blue Jackets that will help move things along to building that 3rd line."

Why a trade with the Blue Jackets could help the Oilers

The trade would help balance Edmonton's forward group and keep Ryan Nugent-Hopkins on Connor McDavid's wing instead of dropping to the third line.
Of course, there are the usual contract hurdles, too. Charlie Coyle has a $5.25 million cap hit with a no-move clause and a three-team no-trade clause.
Boone Jenner has a $3.75 million cap hit with an eight-team no-trade clause. Mangiapane comes in at a $3.6 million cap hit through 2026-27.
If Columbus is included, the move would likely require more than a straight one-for-one swap, with Edmonton needing a bigger return to make the deal work.
