Today, a new report from Edmonton Oilers insider Bob Stauffer confirmed the team is targeting three young goaltenders on the waiver and trade market. The Edmonton Oilers goaltending position has been the source of discussion all summer long with debates about what the team should do. Oilers fans are hopeful that GM Stan Bowman and the front office will make a move before opening night to replace Stuart Skinner. Earlier today, one source suggested the Oilers partner with the Buffalo Sabres for a goalie upgrade. Due to the unlikely willingness of the Buffalo Sabres to trade away one of their young goalies NHL insider Bob Stauffer has offered up three other options. Stauffer believes the Oilers could target one of Nico Daws, Michael DiPietro, or Sebastian Cossa.
Edmonton Oilers Linked To Three Young Goalies In New Report
During a new edition of Oilers Now, Stauffer mentioned Daws, DiPietro, and Cossa all as viable options. Stauffer believes that DiPietro is the least likely as the Bruins are reportedly afraid of losing him to waivers. In the case of Daws and Cossa, it will be up to GM Stan Bowman to determine how much he is willing to give up for a new goaltender.

Loading from Twitter ...

Of the three goalies, Cossa has the most upside and reports suggested the Oilers have discussed a trade centered around him with the Red Wings but he comes with the smallest track record of professional success. DiPietro has had the most pro success but is likely near his peak performance while Daws fits somewhere in the middle of the two. As the NHL preseason approaches all eyes will be on Bowman to see how aggressive he becomes trying to upgrade over Stuart Skinner or Calvin Pickard.
