NHL Analyst Links Edmonton Oilers to Top Goalie Prospects from Detroit Red Wings

It remains no secret that the Edmonton Oilers are desperately looking to make a potential change to their goaltending tandem to improve upon Stuart Skinner and Calvin Pickard.

Despite struggling in the Stanley Cup Playoffs the duo of Skinner and Pickard has been reliable during the regular season making a true upgrade difficult to find.

Recently, reports have connected the Oilers to several younger goaltenders that would at least extend the Oilers contention window and provide more upside than Skinner or Pickard currently but potentially a slight downgrade for this upcoming season.

Today, NHL analyst and insider Cam Robinson revealed that the Oilers have been in contact with the Detroit Red Wings inquiring about the availability of top goalie prospects Sebastian Cossa and Trey Augustine.

During a new segment of the Sekeres & Price Show, Cam Robinson confirmed through his sources that the Oilers have had preliminary trade discussions with Steve Yzerman and the Red Wings targeting either Augustine or Cossa.

As Robinson mentions, Augustine is likely a long-shot as the Red Wings are unlikely to part with him after a standout Freshman season at Michigan State.

As for Cossa, there could be potential for a deal to be struck between the Oilers and Red Wings.

A once can't miss prospect drafted in the first round Cossa has struggled to transition to professional hockey so far but took a big step forward this season in the AHL while also playing his first NHL game.

Both Augustine and Cossa would be an immense improvement to the Edmonton Oilers long-term outlook in the net and could provide the elite potential that has been missing in net for Edmonton for decades now.
