The Oilers were recently denied permission to interview former Golden Knights head coach Bruce Cassidy but now Gary Bettman is expected to get involved in the situation.
The Edmonton Oilers made the difficult decision to fire head coach Kris Knoblauch after their first round exit against the Anaheim Ducks.
Since then, GM Stan Bowman has been on the hunt for a new head coach but was recently denied an opportunity to interview one of his top candidates Bruce Cassidy.
As the situation continues, Bowman is still hoping to interview Cassidy but would have to wait until the Golden Knights finals series concludes.
If the Golden Knights continue to deny the Oilers permission to interview Cassidy, NHL insider Andy Strickland expects commissioner Gary Bettman to get involved.

According to Strickland, if the Golden Knights continue to play hard ball the commissioner will almost certainly get involved.
You really don't think teams like Edmonton can't have back channel communication with Bruce Cassidy? There are certainly ways to talk, Vegas will eventually allow permission once their season ends. If not Bettman will get involved.
It seems that Stan Bowman and the Oilers amongst other teams are willing to wait for the Golden Knights series to end before making their decision.
However, if the Golden Knights front office continue to push back then a major controversy could erupt and put Stan Bowman in an incredibly difficult position.
As more information is provided on Cassidy's status and Bettman's involvement in the situation, we will pass along all of the latest details.
