After a heartbreaking loss in the Eastern Conference Finals the Montreal Canadiens are looking forward and are now expected to trade a veteran goaltender.
Heading into the Stanley Cup Playoffs, the Montreal Canadiens starting goalie role was still up for grabs after the team ran a three player tandem all year long.
In the playoffs, breakout star Jakub Dobes took clear control of the starting role with top prospect and expected future star Jacob Fowler as his backup.
This development in the playoffs left former Canadiens starter Sam Montembeault on the outside looking in without a pathway to playing time.
Now, with Dobes and Fowler expected to be the tandem for the foreseeable future, the Canadiens led by GM Kent Hughes are expected to trade Sam Montembeault.

According to a report from insider Pierre LeBrun, the Canadiens are almost certainly going to part ways with Montembeault via trade this summer.

Montembeault, 29, spent three seasons prior to this year as the Canadiens starter and now heads into the final year of his contract with the team making just over 3 million dollars.
Despite his success in Montreal, the Canadiens have two younger and cheaper options for the time being as they look to chase down the Stanley Cup.
With Montembeault's experience as a starter and relatively low cap hit it shouldn't be difficult for the Canadiens to find a suitor for him on the trade market.
As the offseason gets underway, it will be interesting to see where Montembeault ends up and what role he is expected to play.
