Following a massive Game 3 win by the Oilers, head coach Kris Knoblauch refused to name a starter for Game 4, once again stirring up a goaltending controversy. After two rocky performances, Stuart Skinner was pulled from Game 2, and the Oilers went to Calvin Pickard in an attempt to salvage a win. Pickard helped Edmonton record a critical Game 3 victory, but head coach Kris Knoblauch refused to commit to who would start in net for Game 4. KNOBLAUCH: Calvin, again has found a way to get another victory. He's been doing that a lot in 2025, just finding ways to win. He made some really key saves in the third period. 2 goals on the - I'm thinking of the powerplay goals, not much chance there. I thought Calvin was very solid. REPORTER: You're not saying at this point who's going to start? KNOBLAUCH: No. we're going to evaluate. Knoblauch complimented Pickard on making the big play under pressure, but also suggested that there were some moments they'd like to have back, like Trevor Moore's one-handed breakaway goal, which almost flipped the momentum. We're down with about seven minutes left in an almost must-win game. The composure on the bench, they stuck with it & kept on pushing. There's a time to hit the panic button & they didn't. - Kris Knoblauch

Loading from Twitter ...

Knoblauch's response suggests Skinner could see action in Game 4
Even in a win, there's still uncertainty in the Oilers' crease. Knoblauch's reluctance to name a Game 4 starter suggests Skinner could be between the pipes. With Game 4 also being played in Edmonton, the Oilers may consider home ice to be the perfect setting to regain Skinner's confidence after a subpar start and rough treatment by the Kings' crowd in Los Angeles. While Pickard had a rough, gritty game, he didn't notch the shutout and did allow for a questionable score by giving up four, allowing for Knoblauch to even think about changing again. Looking at Skinner's recent outing, though, it isn't an easy decision, but to call on him now in front of the welcoming home faithful might be Edmonton's move for Sunday to tie the series.
