In a new interview Vancouver Canucks insider Rick Dhaliwal spoke about what the biggest issue between the organization and Tom Willander has become in negotiations.

Over the last week reports have come out that the Vancouver Canucks are struggling to sign first round pick Tom Willander to an entry level deal.
After spending this season with Boston University and playing well, many were expecting Willander to make the immediate jump to professional hockey and play either playoff hockey in Vancouver or Abbotsford.
Of course the Vancouver Canucks failed to secure a playoff spot but Willander was still expected to report to the AHL for the Abbotsford Canucks regular season stretch run and playoffs.
Instead, with the Calder Cup Playoffs in the AHL underway, Willander remains unsigned, and reports seem to indicate there are compensation problems between the organization and Willander's representation.
To this point exactly what the sticking point was between the Canucks and Willander was unknown with many assuming it was a guaranteed money and bonus discrepancy in his entry level contract.
Now, this evening Canucks insider Rick Dhaliwal has finally been able to confirm exactly what the problem is and how far apart the two sides are.

Canucks Insider Rick Dhaliwal Confirms Why Tom Willander Has Not Signed

In a new guest appearance on Sportsnet, Dhaliwal spoke about the strange situation involving Willander, confirming that the two sides are not all that far apart.
According to Dhaliwal, the disagreement is over $200,000 that Willander and his representatives are pushing for.
Funny thing is they're not super far apart, said Dhaliwal, on Sportsnet's Halford & Brough Friday morning. «Some say the gap is only $200,000. Cooler heads should prevail and get this kid a part of the Canucks. He wants to turn pro, he was willing to go to Abbotsford. He never ever asked for guaranteed ice time, he's not even asking for full max bonuses. This is a big piece of your blue line in the future, get the kid signed.
While $200,000 is a lot of money in the grand scheme of an NHL contract and salary cap, it is not that significant.
If this truly is all that is separating the two sides from an agreement then egos need to be put aside and this needs to be finished as soon as possible so the Canucks can secure a major part of their blue line for years to come.
