Evander Kane Draws Comments from Oilers Superstar After Clutch Game 3 Win Over Kings
The Oilers got a much-needed win in Game 3, and Evander Kane was deemed a clutch player and hero by many players and fans alike for his performance.
The Edmonton Oilers stormed back to beat the Los Angeles Kings 7-4 on Friday night, claiming Game 3 of their first-round playoff series.
Veteran winger Evander Kane, playing in just his second game since returning from surgery, tied the game in the mid-third period, sending a loose puck past Kings goalie Darcy Kuemper to bring the score to 4-4.
Kane's third-period game-winning goal fueled a crazy Edmonton comeback, with the team scoring three other goals to win by a landslide.
Leon Draisaitl, who recently signed an eight-year, $112 million contract with the Oilers, was amazed by Kane's heroics after being off the ice for so long.
"It's hard to do. Nice to have him back of course. He brings an asset to our lineup that we don't have a lot of," Draisaitl said postgame. "He's a guy that doesn't overthink these big moments - he just wants to score and he wants to he wants to play. Very happy we have him."
Kane, who has been out since last June's Stanley Cup Final, underwent hernia surgery in September and knee surgery in January.
Connor Brown says Kane is "one in a million"
His quick return to his old self left teammates like Connor Brown in awe of his contribution so soon after his lengthy layoff.
"He's one in a million, man. It's unbelievable what he's able to do when the lights are on. Kaner is incredible," Brown said. "I missed a full season. It took me 60 games to score. So for him to do it in six periods is amazing."
Evan Bouchard, Connor Brown, Connor McDavid, and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins also tallied for Edmonton. The Kings got goals from Drew Doughty, Adrian Kempe, Trevor Moore, and Kevin Fiala.
Los Angeles protested Kane's goal, citing goalie interference, but upon review, the call stood.
With the victory, the Oilers now trail the series 2-1. Game 4 is Sunday night, once again in Edmonton.
