The Oilers will have too many defensemen when everyone is healthy, which has prompted NHL insider Elliotte Friedman to believe a trade may happen.

The Edmonton Oilers don't have to look far to determine if they need to trade one of their blue-liners. They now boast eight NHL-caliber defensemen with Jake Walman off injured reserve, and still others in Bakersfield waiting to be called up.
Though fans may dream of a blockbuster trade, the more probable scenario would be a depth move, according to NHL insider Elliotte Friedman.
"The Edmonton Oilers have a glut on the backend, and the team could look to move someone out. They've got 8 or 9 [defenseman], including the guys in the AHL; I think eventually Edmonton could be looking at that [trade-wise]."

Ty Emberson, Alec Regula, and Troy Stecher have the most risk of being traded

Defensemen Ty Emberson, Alec Regula, and Troy Stecher are the most probable trade candidates. Each has something to bring to the table: experience, youth, or size, but perhaps there just isn't room on the roster for all three.
Stecher, 31, has a contract that is set to expire, but brings value in his ability to play many roles and have a sub-$1 million cap hit.
Emberson, 25, is a cheap, steady option under contract for next season, although his name has been raised in past trade rumors.
Acquired in the Cody Ceci trade with San Jose, he's been solid, but might be traded if Edmonton wants an NHL-ready forward in return.
Regula, also 25, hasn't made an impression yet. Injured for much of last season, he has only played two games this season.
His size and past potential as a Red Wings prospect are interesting, but he probably lags behind Emberson and Stecher on the depth chart, or would at least be a more long-term prospect for the Oilers.
With AHL Bakersfield acquiring veteran blue-liners Cam Dineen and Josh Brown for depth, GM Stan Bowman might soon have a roster decision to make.
With Regula's return, Edmonton might trade off on its blueline commodity, possibly to acquire a forward and level out the lineup for the second half of the season.
