The Edmonton Oilers are on pace for their worst offensive output since Connor McDavid arrived and it has caused speculation about Kris Knoblauch's future. Heading into the 2025-26 season, the Edmonton Oilers forward group was expected to have several players who were unproven but led by Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl still expected to be elite. Through the early part of the NHL season, the Oilers offense has been truly abysmal even with McDavid and Draisaitl playing more minutes than ever. The Oilers have consistently been near the bottom or entirely at the bottom of almost every offensive category according to Kevin Woodley.

Loading from Twitter ...

Since Connor McDavid arrived in Edmonton in 2015 the Oilers have rarely if at all struggled like this in the offensive zone especially since the breakout of Leon Draisaitl. While some of the issues with the offense fall on the players many fans to this point have placed the blame squarely on head coach Kris Knoblauch.
Kris Knoblauch Under Fire For Abysmal Oilers Offense Early in the Season
While the Oilers' stars have not played up to their standards many fans believe some of the Oilers young players have not been given proper chances to impress. Fans are frustrated with Knoblauch trotting out low-upside veterans over players like Matt Savoie and Isaac Howard.

Loading from Twitter ...

Loading from Twitter ...

It is still early in the season and there is plenty of time for adjustments and improvement. However, at a certain point Stan Bowman and the Oilers front office might have to step in and shake things up if the offense can't find a spark.
