Ahead of the Stanley Cup Playoffs, the Edmonton Oilers have been linked to college star T.J. Hughes as a free agent target who could join the team in the near future.

The Edmonton Oilers have struggled to find depth scoring for years to support Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl.
This season, young forward Matt Savoie has stepped up and provided some help in the top-six but the Oilers find themselves needing even more talent to go alongside their stars.
A new report has indicated that Oilers could get the upgrade they need by way of signing Hobey Baker finalist T.J. Hughes.

Edmonton Oilers linked to college star T.J. Hughes as late season addition

According to NHL insider David Pagnotta, the Edmonton Oilers and Toronto Maple Leafs have serious interest in signing Hughes.
The Toronto Maple Leafs & Edmonton Oilers both view T.J Hughes as a player who can step in and play in the NHL right out of the gate. Per, David Pagnotta.
Hughes would be a major boost to either team as both the Maple Leafs and Oilers have major holes surrounding their stars.
The unfortunate part for the Oilers is Hughes would not be eligible for the Stanley Cup Playoffs as he is an undrafted free agent.
If the Oilers already had his draft rights or had signed him before the trade deadline he could play but instead Hughes would likely report to AHL Bakersfield where he would be eligible for playoffs.
Even with the disappointment of his ineligibility for the playoffs, Hughes would be a major boost to the Oilers’ prospect pool and would likely draw into the Oilers lineup on opening night next season.
As more reports surface on Hughes’ free agent plans and where he will sign we will provide all of the latest updates.
