With the recent surge of injury issues for the Edmonton Oilers and the team's salary cap issues a new creative solution has been found to give the team more depth. Earlier today the Edmonton Oilers announced that Trent Frederic is out once again after injuring his ankle against the Los Angeles Kings. With Frederic out the Oilers are now without their top three centers as Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl continue their recovery. As a result, the Oilers need to be able to call up more reinforcements from the Bakersfield Condors in the AHL. Unfortunately, the Oilers are at the salary cap limit and currently are unable to call-up anyone to fill the spots on the roster.

Loading from Twitter ...

Due to the circumstances, one source believes the Edmonton Oilers need to make the difficult decision to put one of their top players on Long-Term Injured Reserve.
Reporter Urges The Edmonton Oilers To Place Top-Four Defenseman On LTIR
According to Edmonton Oilers reporter Jason Gregor the team is considering a bold move to place John Klingberg on LTIR for the rest of the regular season. Klingberg has reportedly been dealing with an infection and will miss time anyways and the Oilers need the roster spot for forwards.

Loading from Twitter ...

This would then allow the Oilers to use that salary cap space to at least bring up one forward and if needed likely a second for the rest of the season. Then as the Stanley Cup Playoffs begin Klingberg could be activated and play in Game 1 after properly healing up. It remains to be seen if this is the approach that the Edmonton Oilers take as tonight's game against the Anaheim Ducks quickly approaches.
