The Oilers are expected to welcome back Adam Henrique to the lineup after the Olympic break but his addition could mean trouble for teammate Andrew Mangiapane.

The Edmonton Oilers remain in a familiar place as the NHL is on pause with razor thin margins in salary cap and a key player in Adam Henrique expected to return to the lineup.
Henrique suffered an injury in early January and at the time had a return timeline near the Olympic break but ultimately was decided that he would return after the break.
Once Henrique does return, the Oilers will be over the salary cap and in need of another move to give themselves the space to activate him.
Speculation this evening has suggested that fellow veteran Andrew Mangiapane is likely to be the odd man out either via trade or waivers.

Speculation mounts regarding veteran forward Andrew Mangiapane’s future with the Oilers

This evening, fan speculation has begun as Andrew Mangiapane has been suggested as the potential cap casualty to create room for Henrique.
The Edmonton Oilers will need to activate Adam Henrique after the break. Leaving them with -$111,666 cap space. One player will need to go down or out.

If you waive Andrew Mangiapane, that gives Edmonton $1,038,334 in cap space.
The Oilers have already been rumored to be working with Mangiapane to facilitate a trade to a new home with more playing time.
However, if the Oilers cannot find a trade partner to take on Mangiapane’s contract Stan Bowman could have to consider waiving him and assigning him to Bakersfield in the AHL.
For now, the Oilers have time to work on potential moves as the NHL roster freeze is in place but once the freeze is lifted look for the Oilers to quickly make a move.
