Oilers' Connor McDavid has received a very special honor from the NHL today, as he was named the first star of the week in the entire league.

Edmonton Oilers center Connor McDavid, Ottawa Senators goaltender Linus Ullmark, and Columbus Blue Jackets defenseman Zach Werenski have been named the NHL's "Three Stars" for the week ending Dec. 21.

What Connor McDavid did to earn this honor

McDavid earned his second straight "First Star" after scoring in all four games, posting three multi-point outings and recording a League-leading five goals, five assists, and 10 points.
He notched a four-point effort in a 6‑4 win against the Pittsburgh Penguins Dec. 16, added two points with his 19th career shorthanded goal in a 3-1 win over the Boston Bruins Dec. 18, scored in a 5-2 loss to the Minnesota Wild Dec. 20, and finished with three points in a 4-3 victory against the Vegas Golden Knights Dec. 21.

Why Connor McDavid is officially dominating the NHL

McDavid now leads the NHL with 62 points through 37 games, including being first in assists, power-play assists, and power-play points.
Ullmark went 3-0-0 with a 1.32 goals-against average, .943 save percentage, and one shutout to help the Senators climb within one point of a playoff spot.
He made 23 saves in a 3-2 OT win over the Winnipeg Jets Dec. 15, earned his 13th career shutout with 25 stops in a 4-0 win vs. Pittsburgh Dec. 18, and finished the week with 18 saves in a 6-2 win against Boston Dec. 21. Ullmark is tied for sixth in the NHL with 14 wins this season.
Werenski tied for the league lead with five goals in three games for the Blue Jackets. He had three points in a 4-3 win over Anaheim Dec. 16, scored twice in a 5-2 loss to Minnesota Dec. 18, and added two points in a 4-3 loss to Anaheim Dec. 20, marking his 14th multi-point game of the season.
He ranks among the top NHL defensemen in goals, points, and assists.
