During the Oilers game vs. the Canadiens, Connor McDavid produced his 200th multi-assist game of his career, the third fastest NHL player to ever do this. Connor McDavid added another page to his legacy at a young age Thursday night, pacing the game silently with three assists in the Edmonton Oilers' 6-5 victory over the Montreal Canadiens at Rogers Place. Edmonton improved to 4-3-1 with the win, but the subplot was McDavid's incessant drive into franchise history. The three-assist night was the 137th time he's hit that total, tying Jari Kurri for second-most in franchise history, well behind Wayne Gretzky's unearthly 301.

Loading from Twitter ...

Connor McDavid hit a second milestone in the same game
McDavid also became the third-quickest skater in NHL history to get to 200 multi-assist games, accomplishing it in 720 games, behind only Gretzky (449) and Mario Lemieux (580).

Loading from Twitter ...

The game was truly a rollercoaster. Montreal began quickly before Edmonton fought back as Adam Henrique and Andrew Mangiapane scored, both assisted by McDavid. Then the Canadiens scored three goals in a little over one minute to seize control, and Alex Newhook's second of the night made it 5-3. Yet Edmonton's deadly power play once again flipped it all around. McDavid assisted on Leon Draisaitl and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins' quick-fire goals prior to Vasily Podkolzin's winner with 69 seconds remaining. While the Oilers' defense is still a worry, the team displayed some much-needed jam down the stretch, and once again, their captain was right at the center of it. Still only 28, McDavid continues to blend history-making greatness and clutch leadership, proving he's not pursuing Gretzky's ghost but forging his own path in a far more defense-conscious, warp-speed era. Edmonton now heads west to play Seattle and Vancouver this weekend and will attempt to carry McDavid's momentum and increasing confidence into a make-or-break stretch of the early season.
