Facing an uncertain future with the Edmonton Oilers, goaltender Calvin Pickard is reportedly drawing interest on the trade market as the trade deadline gets closer.
Perhaps nobody on the Edmonton Oilers is facing a more uncertain future with the team than goaltender Calvin Pickard, who has been relegated to third string duties not only after the acquisition last month of Tristan Jarry from the Pittsburgh Penguins but the play of Connor Ingram.
Pickard, who is a pending UFA at the end of the year, could potentially be moved by the Oilers at the trade deadline or perhaps even kept as insurance.
Per a report from analyst David Pagnotta, Pickard isn't happy with his new role and could soon find himself in a new situation.
David Pagnotta: Calvin Pickard's not overly happy with his new role; I think some teams may have inquired to say hey what's your plan with him; I could certainly see Edmonton holding onto him as security - Hello Hockey (1/24)
The trade deadline this year is March 6.
Calvin Pickard Is Reportedly Not Happy With His New Role With The Oilers
Pickard recently admitted that it's not been his best year but that he doesn't want to dwell on the details of how they arrived at this point.
It hasn't been my best season. I don't love how it got to this point, but I get it. I can't be boiling mad coming to the rink every day, because that'll just be counterproductive for what I need to do .I have conversations with the coaching staff and different things, maybe a little bit more stern. But as a teammate, nothing changes for me. A guy in my position - lower contract, not very long of a contract - as a general manager, you're always probably looking to the future. It's tough for me. - Calvin Pickard
Pickard is a pending UFA at the end of the year, it's possible his time with the Oilers is coming to an end before long.
