Current Edmonton Oilers defenseman Evan Bouchard is on the verge of passing Oilers legend Paul Coffey in the franchise record books.
The Edmonton Oilers made a major investment when they decided to re-sign defenseman Evan Bouchard, and they hope it pays off for them in the long run.
Bouchard is on the verge of passing legendary Oilers defenseman Paul Coffey in the team record books, as he's now tied him for having three straight years with at least 50+ points.
So far this year, Bouchard has 55 points (14G, 41A) in 53 games.
Evan Bouchard Was Re-Signed By The Oilers To A Four Year Deal
Bouchard avoided becoming a free agent and signed a four year deal with an AAV (average annual value) of $10.5 million, but it turns out that GM Stan Bowman was looking to at least double the length of the deal.
But as he said, Bouchard's camp wanted a shorter term extension.
We certainly were hoping to do an eight-year deal, but that was never really in the cards. I guess in the negotiations, an eight-year term was really never in the cards. I think the agent indicated that that wasn't something they thought made sense for them. I think it's really a function of the salary cap and where that's going. We certainly know that over the next three years, it's going to increase considerably. - Stan Bowman
Bouchard, who was taken with the 10th overall pick by the Oilers in the 2018 NHL Entry Draft, has 293 points (69G, 224A) in 400 games played, all in an Oilers sweater.
