The Edmonton Oilers have just extended a PTO to a former Toronto Maple Leaf, Travis Dermott. He will report to camp in an attempt to make the team.

The Edmonton Oilers brought in former Toronto Maple Leafs defenceman Travis Dermott for a professional tryout (PTO) on Friday. Dermott, a 27-year-old from Newmarket, ON, had a solid season with the Arizona Coyotes last year, posting two goals, five assists, for seven points, and racked up 26 penalty minutes in 50 games.
The six-foot defender, weighing 202 pounds, has also played with the Vancouver Canucks and Toronto Maple Leafs. He was originally drafted by Toronto in the second round, 34th overall, back in 2015.
In his seven years in the NHL, Travis Dermott has scored 16 goals and added 46 assists in 329 games while averaging just over 16 minutes of ice time per game.
Dermott spent two seasons in the OHL with the Erie Otters, playing with Oilers captain Connor McDavid before his arrival in the NHL. As well, he was coached by current Edmonton headman Kris Knoblauch.
Perhaps this familiarity with his coach and superstar player can help him make the team.
