Dylan Larkin's trade market just got significantly wider, and the reason comes down to one word from his agent.
Pierre LeBrun of The Athletic reported that Detroit Red Wings general manager Steve Yzerman met personally with Pat Brisson - one of the most powerful agents in professional hockey - and asked him to expand Larkin's original three-team list.
Brisson was receptive. That single detail reshapes everything that follows.
Re Dylan Larkin: "Steve Yzerman went...and asked to expand their original list; my sense is that [agent] Pat Brisson was receptive to that to some degree; I don't think we're just dealing with the Wild, Golden Knights and Panthers anymore."

The original list - the Minnesota Wild, Vegas Golden Knights, and Florida Panthers - left Yzerman with virtually no leverage and no way to start a bidding war.
Vegas was already navigating serious cap constraints heading into 2026-27, and at least one of those three clubs couldn't even guarantee it had the assets to meet Detroit's asking price.
What LeBrun's report signals goes well beyond a simple list adjustment - Pat Brisson doesn't communicate openness by accident.
When an agent of his standing indicates receptiveness to a GM's request, it sends a signal to every front office in the league that the call is worth making.
The market just got a lot more crowded
The Dallas Stars were among the first names to surface, with Utah and Tampa Bay also reportedly monitoring the situation.
LeBrun made clear that the Red Wings are no longer confined to three potential trade partners, which matters enormously for what Yzerman can actually extract.
Larkin carries an $8.7 million cap hit with five years remaining on his deal. That's a significant commitment for any acquiring team, which is exactly why Yzerman needs multiple buyers at the table, not three.
Larkin still controls the destination
His full no-trade clause remains fully intact, and Brisson signaling receptiveness is not the same as Larkin approving a wider field.
Every team entering this race should expect to compete hard for a destination Larkin has already decided he wants.
