Mikhail Sergachev, the Tampa Bay Lightning defenseman, left last night's game against the New York Rangers after a tough hit from Alexis Lafreniere.

Here's how he went down:
Unfortunately, he had to leave in a stretcher his first game back from another major injury that forced him to miss more than a month.

Following the game, he shared a heartfelt statement about his condition.

Emotional Statement from Mikhail Sergachev After Getting Injured on First Game Back From Other Injury

The Bolts' defenseman revealed many details about his state of mind going into this new recovery process.
This is what he had to say:
"Oh man, why me? Why now? After all the games missed, coming back and getting injured again, feels unfair, feels terrible. Trying to stay calm and positive, but it's impossible. After doing everything right I get this. The universe is unpredictable I guess, and has its own plans , but fuck the universe man, I know I'll come back stronger and I know I'll play better than before, but it's tough right now, and it's gonna be tough tomorrow. We all fight our own battles and this is mine. I'll win, always do. Pain meds are good tho, if I was in the forest by myself I'd be dead, crazy innit?! Wanted to write how I feel here, don't know why, but just wanted to let people that care about me know! I appreciate all of your messages. Thanks to the medical staff.

While it won't be easy for Sergachev in the coming weeks, the captain Steven Stamkos supported him in a recent interview.

Sergachev isn't in an easy situation, and Stamkos knows it, as he was once in it too.
The captain went through the same thing earlier in his career.
Here's the insights he offered:
"It's not fun. You feel sick to your stomach. Obviously, Sergy has put in a lot of time and effort to come back from his original injury and, then, to see something pretty traumatic like that happen from someone who has been through that, it's tough to watch." - Steven Stamkos
