We have bee reminded all too often this year just how dangerous hockey is. Tonight we got another scare as Lightning defenseman Mikhail Sergachev was stretched off the ice after taking a hit from Alexis Lafrenière.

Sergachev Taken Off Ice On A Stretcher After Scary Hit

The big Russian defenseman was injured on a play along the boards near the corner in his own zone. Sergachev went to make a hit on Rangers forward Alexis Lafrenière but instead he was caught off guard by a reverse hit from the young forward. Following the play, a number of his teammates came to check on him, many coming off the bench to do so.

Eventually, a stretcher was brought out to help get the injured blueliner off the ice so he can receive medical attention.

Lightning defenseman Mikhail Sergachev is on the Garden ice in pain. He looked to be holding his knee. I believe he tried to lay a hit on #NYR Alexis Lafrenière and then went down.

The stretcher is coming out for No. 98.

Eventually, every player from both teams came off the bench to greet the defenseman as he was slowly being taken off the ice. It was a nice moment of camaraderie, showing that many things in life are more important than sports.

The Rangers and Lightning all came out to wish Mikhail Sergachev well. He looked emotional heading off the ice.

Stay tuned for updates on Sergachev's status as they arrive.
