Marie-Philip Poulin and Team Canada faced Olympic controversy after the gold medal loss when French remarks were reportedly blocked.

PuckEmpire first amplified the CTV News report, citing the Canadian Olympic Committee's confirmation of the situation.
According to that report, Canada's women's hockey captain was not allowed to speak French during the post-game press conference.
The moment came minutes after Canada fell to the United States in the Olympic final on 19 February.
For a bilingual country, that detail hit hard.
The clip and follow-up reporting spread quickly across hockey circles on Thursday and Friday.
Fans questioned how the captain of Team Canada could be limited in her native language on that stage.
The Canadian Olympic Committee confirmed the issue, pushing the story beyond social media noise.

Marie-Philip Poulin and Team Canada demand clarity

You could feel the frustration from fans who see Poulin as a symbol of pride and identity.
The International Olympic Committee and Milano Cortina 2026 acknowledged there was an interpretation issue at the press conference.
They stated the venue media manager apologized to the person concerned immediately after and again the following day.
The IOC added it was very sorry for any inconvenience caused.
"Following the women's ice hockey final on 19 February, Milano Cortina 2026 and the International Olympic Committee understand that there was an issue with interpretation at the post-game press conference.

The Milano Cortina 2026 Venue Media Manager apologized to the person concerned immediately after the press conference and did so once again yesterday. We are very sorry for any inconvenience that this may have caused."

That wording matters, but so does the context.
Marie-Philip Poulin has long carried Team Canada in defining moments, and this was supposed to be about hockey, not language policy.
Instead, the story shifted from a rivalry loss to questions about respect and representation.
With the apology now public, the focus should return to the ice, but trust needs rebuilding before the next Olympic spotlight.
