The decision made by Ivan Provorov to boycott his team's pride jerseys in warmups caused quite a stir in the hockey world. However, the aftermath of that decision has been even more concerning, with more teams canceling their pride nights, communities becoming increasingly frustrated with the NHL's lack of direction, and a less inclusive future for the league. In addition, it seems that Provorov's decision may have cost GM Chuck Fletcher his job.

During the 32 Thoughts Podcast, Elliotte Friedman shed light on the situation by saying,
"You cannot surprise your ownership like that...From the moment that happened I think there were gonna be consequences."

He went on to explain that when you're in a leadership role, you may receive credit that you don't always deserve, but you also take the blame, whether or not you deserve it.
The Flyers are owned by a corporation, Comcast, and the move did not sit well with them. With Fletcher's failure to meet expectations and Provorov's controversial decision, it seems that this was the tipping point.
It's unfortunate that one act of defiance and homophobia has had such a negative impact on the league as a whole. The lack of support for pride nights and the NHL's failure to take a clear stance on inclusivity only adds to the problem.
