In a live press briefing at the Bell Centre yesterday, National Hockey League Commissioner Gary Bettman made a major statement about Montreal Canadiens youngster Logan Mailloux.

When asked if Mailloux would get the green light from the NHL to play in the relatively near future, meaning next season, Bettman said that the league would have to take a serious and comprehensive look at the matter.
Basically, he didn't close the door, but he also didn't confirm that Mailloux would be able to play in the National Hockey League when he wanted to. In other words, he doesn't have the green light at this point.
"We haven't dealt with that yet because we haven't been asked...we'll have to evaluate his situation, evaluate his record if and when the Habs decide to take him to the NHL level, if that ever happens." - Gary Bettman

Still, it's amazing how complex and somewhat abusive the process seems to be regarding the accessibility of the 2021 first round pick to the NHL. I understand his history, but the fact remains that there are players currently playing in the NHL who have done much worse things, like Evander Kane for example.
In my opinion, it is incomprehensible that the commissioner always implies that Mailloux may never have the opportunity to play in the National League, it would not make sense.
The 6-foot-3, 217-pound defenseman has 13 goals and 31 points in 33 OHL games this season.
Hopefully this issue will be resolved by next season.
