NHL insiders Elliotte Friedman and Pierre LeBrun revealed some big news today, as the Oilers acquired Penguins goalie Tristan Jarry, as well as Predators defenseman Spencer Stastney.
What the Oilers hope to achieve with this trade
Rumors have been in the works for weeks, and it has finally come to fruition early this morning. This move will hopefully stabilize the Oilers' crease moving forward.
In return, the Oilers will be sending Stuart Skinner to the Penguins, after initial reports were that they wanted to keep him in tandem with Jarry, but that will not be happening any longer.
The Oilers are also getting Spencer Stastney from the Predators for a 2027 third-round draft pick, according to LeBrun.
Jarry wasn't the only player the Oilers acquired as part of the trade portion with Pittsburgh, as Sam Poulin will also be heading North to Edmonton. To compensate for that, Brett Kulak and a second-round pick are being sent the other way.
Tristan Jarry has had a resurgence this season
This season, Jarry has 9-3-1 with a 2.66 goals-against and a .909 save percentage. In 307 career NHL games, Jarry has a 161-100-32 record with a 2.74 goals-against average and a .909 save percentage.
Stastney has a goal and nine points in 30 games so far this season for the Predators. The 25-year-old was selected in the fifth round of the 2018 NHL Entry Draft by Nashville.
