David Pagnotta says Morgan Rielly is a summer trade possibility, and Toronto's $7.5 million cap hit is now a league-wide conversation.
Rielly is signed through 2029-30 at a $7.5 million AAV. His deal carries a full no-move clause, then shifts to a 10-team no-trade list in the final two seasons.
That matters because this is not loose deadline chatter anymore. This is a contract structure that can shape Toronto's whole summer.
Rielly has 9-24-33 in 67 games this season. He still moves pucks, joins the rush, and gives a top-six forward group cleaner exits.
The problem is fit. Toronto already has puck-moving touches, but it still looks like a blue line that needs more bite, more box-out wins, and cleaner late-game defending.

For contenders, Rielly is a left-shot transporter who can feed skill and help a second man advantage. For softer rebuilds, he is a minutes-eater with term.
That is why all 31 other teams can at least make the call. The no-move clause limits Toronto, but it also lets Rielly pick his fit.
The Leafs are carrying a projected cap hit of $93.94 million with about $1.78 million in projected cap space. Moving Rielly would open the one clean lane to reshape the blue line.
This is the summer pressure point now, because one decision could change Toronto's defense, cap map, and playoff identity in one swing.
