Former Jets goalie and fan-favorite, Laurent Brossoit, was involved in a trade today, as the Blackhawks sent him to the Sharks in a multi-player deal.
The Sharks have acquired defenseman Nolan Allan, goaltender Laurent Brossoit, and a 2028 seventh-round pick from the Blackhawks in exchange for defenseman Jake Furlong, a 2028 fourth-round pick, and the contract of retired defenseman Ryan Ellis.
Brossoit, who played for the Oilers and was also a fan favorite in Winnipeg while playing there, is the highest-priced piece in the trade for San Jose. His NHL experience and veteran presence provide the Sharks with depth in goal.
The player generating the most buzz from this trade
Allan is the name generating the most intrigue. A first-round pick by Chicago out of WHL Prince Albert in 2021, the 22-year-old is in his third professional season.
He spent 2025-26 in the AHL with Rockford but gained NHL experience last season, often paired with veteran T.J. Brodie and recording eight points and a -13 rating in 43 games.
Despite the potential, Allan's development hasn't matched expectations. Drafted as a shutdown defenseman, he finishes his time in Rockford with 29 points and an even rating in 109 games, including six points and a -2 rating this season.
Why the Blackhawks no longer had room for Nolan Allan
Chicago had little room for him with Alex Vlasic, Wyatt Kaiser, Kevin Korchinski, and Ethan Del Mastro ahead in the system, and he was no longer considered a top-15 prospect.
For the Sharks, Allan fills a gap on the left side of their prospect pool. While Sam Dickinson is the long-term anchor, younger options are limited.
Allan is expected to take a significant role with the AHL's San Jose Barracuda while working toward another NHL opportunity, offering a shutdown presence with a first-round pedigree.
