The latest trade proposal by NHL analyst Rob Couch of NHL Trade Rumors has the Oilers acquiring Bruins goalie Michael DiPietro, and he could play up to 35 games.

Stuart Skinner has shown flashes of being more than above average in net for the Edmonton Oilers, but consistency remains a big problem. The 2024-25 season was a prime example of those issues, as he was extremely inconsistent.
Stuart Skinner finished the season with a 26-18-4 record, 2.81 goals-against average, and .896 save percentage. Of all NHL goalies, his GAA was 31st, and his save percentage was 35th, numbers far from elite for a Stanley Cup-contending team.
Given that, some fans, analysts, and insiders believe the Oilers should look for a younger alternative sooner rather than later.
NHL analyst Rob Couch of NHL Trade Rumors recently suggested an intriguing possibility: Boston Bruins netminder Michael DiPietro to the Oilers via trade.
"A goalie who is absolutely ready for the NHL is Michael DiPietro. The Boston Bruins have Jeremy Swayman and Joonas Korpisalo under contract for at least the next three seasons, even though Korpisalo appears to be on the trade block and could be moved.

"DiPietro is 26 years old and has only played in three NHL games, but after spending all of 2022-23 in the ECHL, he found his way back to the AHL and has dominated for the Providence Bruins, finishing last season with a 2.05 GAA and .927 SV% in 40 games. He is eligible for waivers and I have a good feeling a team is going to grab him if he becomes available. He could be an immediate option in the NHL for Edmonton and even potentially play 30-35 games," Rob Couch wrote.

Michael DiPietro is Unable to get any Real Playing Time in Boston

The 25-year-old netminder has seen very limited time in Boston, behind a deep list of goalies being headlined by Jeremy Swayman, and is not necessarily going to have a clear path to an NHL starter's job there.
A move to Edmonton could change everything for him. If Michael DiPietro dazzles at camp, performs well in preseason contests, and delivers decent showings as a regular-season starter, he could be a good option to fill the Skinner void and possibly even take over.
For the win-now but goalie-starved Oilers, a low-risk deal for an underrated, hungry goalie like DiPietro could be a risk worth taking.
