The Dallas Stars are reportedly targeting Canucks' Kiefer Sherwood and Flames' Rasmus Andersson, according to top NHL insider Elliotte Friedman.

Kiefer Sherwood remains with the Canucks for now, but the current realities in Vancouver mean that they will likely start to deal off some veteran players whose contracts are winding down.
He could be a perfect fit for Dallas after Tyler Seguin's injury, which is why NHL insider Elliotte Friedman has tied him to the Stars.

What makes Kiefer Sherwood appealing to the Stars

Sherwood is making $1.5 million this season, the last year of his deal. That cap hit makes him an appealing target for the Stars.
Predicting his next contract is tough, but his age and style of play suggest he's a real option if Dallas can piece together a trade package.
Sherwood set an NHL record for hits last season, but also chipped in 19 goals. That mix of physicality and growing goal-scoring punch is rare, and the Stars could use a winger like him as they chase a playoff push.
Dallas seems to be in the middle of a prolonged cup window. While they've had some memorable playoff runs over the past five years, the Stanley Cup has yet to be won.

Why the Stars will need to make a move soon

As injuries continue to pile up, the task falls upon GM Jim Nill to keep this season competitive without conceding to the future. Sherwood's affordability and possible impact make him an interesting piece.
Defence is important, too. Friedman mentions that the Stars have had a long-standing interest in Flames defenceman Rasmus Andersson. He's having the best season of his career and has certainly stood out on a Flames team that's struggled.
His strong play has raised his trade value, giving Calgary a chance to sell high while Dallas could benefit from adding a top-four blueliner.
