Sergei Murashov is back up, and Pittsburgh's crease drama just got louder while Edmonton gets one more reminder that the Stuart Skinner chapter is over.

This recall is not about the Oilers needing help in net. Edmonton's current NHL goalies are Connor Ingram and Tristan Jarry, while Skinner has been a Penguin since December 12.
For Pittsburgh, this is a stress test. Skinner is dealing with an upper-body injury, and no recovery timeline was given when Taylor Gauthier was rushed up to cover behind Arturs Silovs.
Murashov is 22, drafted by Pittsburgh in 2022, fourth round, 118th overall. Prospects get called when a team wants insurance, but they stay when they give management a better answer.
His AHL work has earned this look. Murashov owns a 23-8-3 record, a 2.13 goals-against average, and a .922 save percentage for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.
You can see the organization tightening the crease in real time.
Skinner's own Penguins run has been uneven at the wrong time, 11-8-5 with a 2.99 goals-against average and .886 save percentage since the trade. That is why this recall feels bigger than a paper move.

Sergei Murashov pushes Pittsburgh Penguins toward change

Fans in both markets can read the same message. Pittsburgh is hunting stability before the playoffs, and Edmonton can feel even better about choosing a full reset in goal.
The tactical piece matters. Murashov tracks well through traffic and gives Pittsburgh a calmer third option if Silovs cools off or Skinner cannot dress. That can settle a blue line that still leaks rush chances.
Edmonton moved off Skinner, now rides Ingram and Jarry, and Pittsburgh still looks one strong goalie stretch away from clarity.
The next milestone is simple, Murashov does not need to steal the job, he just needs to make Dubas and Dan Muse think twice.
