NHLPR confirmed Ottawa Senators vs. Chicago Blackhawks in Düsseldorf, and Tim Stützle just became the face of a real NHL Germany push.

This is not a one-off postcard series.
The league and NHLPA said Friday they are committing to regular-season games in Germany for at least the next three seasons, starting Dec. 18 and Dec. 20, 2026 at PSD Bank Dome.
That changes the read completely.
Ottawa is the clean fit because Stützle, the Viersen-born center, is still the Senators' engine at 30-40-70 through 64 games. Chicago brings reach too, with Connor Bedard at 27-35-62.
It is marketing, yes, but it is also roster logic.
The Senators are 32-23-9 and still fighting for Eastern ground, so this is not some soft brand ambassador tour. Chicago is 25-29-11, still rebuilding, but Bedard remains a global draw between the pipes of any league strategy deck.

Tim Stützle gives the Ottawa Senators the edge

Fans are going to read this as a Stützle showcase first, and honestly they are right.
The smartest part of the plan is timing. The NHL is coming off the Olympics return, opening a Zurich office, and leaning harder into Europe while Germany's NHL talent finally feels deep, not novelty deep.
For Ottawa, the hockey angle is simple.
A faster, skill-first top-six travels well, and Stützle gives the Senators a natural center point for every camera, sponsor beat, and local fan touch. That matters when your next step is turning curiosity into loyalty.
For Chicago, this is brand muscle.
Bedard moves attention, and the Blackhawks get to sell future before the standings fully cooperate. That is cold, smart business, and it probably works.
The bigger takeaway is this, Germany is no longer a side quest for the NHL. It is a market the league now plans around, and Ottawa landed in the middle of that bet.
