Tonight, a new mock trade has been suggested by NHL analyst Anthony Di Marco centered around Austin Matthews being sent to the Philadelphia Flyers.
The Philadelphia Flyers and Toronto Maple Leafs both find themselves outside of the Stanley Cup Playoffs and in need of a roster shake up.
With Auston Matthews' future in Toronto beyond his current contract in doubt, trade speculation has begun and analysts have started theorizing what it might take for Matthews to be traded.
Tonight, NHL analyst Anthony Di Marco has suggested a bold mock trade that would bring Matthews to Philly.
New mock trade centered around Auston Matthews to Philadelphia emerges
In a new post on X, Di Marco an analyst for Daily Faceoff put together a trade package for Auston Matthews with Trevor Zegras/Owen Tippett, Jett Luchanko, Oliver Bonk, and draft picks heading to Toronto for Matthews and goalie Joseph Woll.
This would be an all-in move for the Flyers as they try to continue building around Matvei Michkov and other young stars.
For the Maple Leafs this would signal a reset of their roster with Zegras being the biggest star piece coming back to Toronto.
Matthews is of course hurt at the moment so his recovery and health being back on track would need to come first before trade talks likely heat up between the two sides.
This is likely only a move the Maple Leafs make if they are moving on from this core group and rebuilding or if they are forced to make a trade by Matthews and his agent.
With the Maple Leafs struggles, this will be a situation to follow into the summer and beyond.
