The Edmonton Oilers could very well have their goalie of the future in Samuel Jonsson thanks to his strong year in the minors with the Fort Wayne Komets of the ECHL.

There is all kinds of talk about the stability of the goaltending of the Edmonton Oilers right now, because Tristan Jarry simply is not getting the job done as they anticipated when they acquired him in December in the blockbuster deal for Stuart Skinner from the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Right now, they are turning to Connor Ingram, who was out of hockey in the NHL Player Assistance Program and who has never played a game in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, as their starter with the playoffs less than a month away.
But there could be good news on the horizon for the Oilers thanks to the strong play of prospect Samuel Jonsson with the ECHL's Fort Wayne Komets.
Jonsson has gone 17-7-2 with a .914 SV% in 27 games so far this year after coming over to North America from his native Sweden. Last year, he played for BIK Karlskoga before being loaned to Farjestad BK.
The Oilers took him with the 158th overall pick in the 2022 NHL Entry Draft, and there's a chance that one day, he could be the starter in the crease for them and finally bring some long-awaited stability to the position.

Tristan Jarry Has Not Gotten The Job Done For The Oilers

The Oilers decided they couldn't wait for Skinner to figure out his inconsistency anymore, and they traded him to the Penguins for Jarry in December.
But Jarry has been completely inconsistent since joining the Oilers and his recent numbers paint a rather terrible picture.
His .883 save percentage is anything but strong for a team hoping to make a third straight deep playoff run, and he still has two years left with an AAV (average annual value) of $5,375,000 left on his contract.
Right now, the deal looks terrible for Oilers GM Stan Bowman.
