Tonight, a new report from NHL insider Renaud Lavoie has confirmed that locker room chemistry issues led the Ottawa Senators to trade away Brady Tkachuk.
This afternoon, the Ottawa Senators pulled off a major blockbuster deal sending Brady Tkachuk to the Florida Panthers for several draft picks.
The trade came as a shock to many as there had not been reports of Brady wanting out of Ottawa leading up to this trade.
However, a new report from insider Renaud Lavoie confirmed that several of Tkachuk's teammates were asked about a potential trade and none of them pushed to keep him.
Locker room chemistry problems reportedly led to Brady Tkachuk trade
According to Lavoie, Tkachuk placed a lot of pressure on the Senators to get a deal done and his teammates are not sad to see him go.
Brady Tkachuk trade is a total bomb but I'm told pressure was high on the Senators to make it happen. Told by multiple sources the dressing room was not pushing for Brady to stay. That being said it's still a gamble to trade him in the same division.
It remains unclear what exactly happened in Ottawa to lead to such dysfunction but a separation seems to have been the only way forward for all parties involved.
Now, the Senators can move forward and try to either bring in another star to replace Tkachuk or rebuild through the draft.
As the NHL Draft approaches, it will be fun to see if the Senators hold on to their two first round picks for Friday night or if they move them on a win now scenario.
