The Vancouver Canucks aren't happy one bit with the Flyers and all of the speculation that has been linking Rick Tocchet to their team as a future head coach. The Philadelphia Flyers have parted with head coach John Tortorella, and the rumor mill already includes Vancouver Canucks head coach Rick Tocchet as a possible replacement next year. Tocchet currently has the Canucks outside the playoff hunt.
Tocchet still has an option year the Canucks can pick up for next season
His deal runs through the current year, with the deal providing a club option for the 2025-26 season, one the Canucks have yet not exercised. In any case, he's still the top man in Vancouver as things go. It's caused some friction in the front office of the Canucks, according to NHL insider Elliotte Friedman. I think that the Canucks have not been happy with the noise around Tocchet talking Philadelphia, and between hearing some of that and what I said, I think they've made their displeasure quite clear around the league, potentially with the flyers to the league itself. I think this was their way of coming out and saying, 'Hey, you know Rick Tocchet, is our coach,' as Tocchet too said himself, 'The season's not over.' - Elliotte Friedman

Vancouver wants some respect for the current contract they have with Tocchet and are calling on other teams for that. Friedman believes other teams are being asked by the club itself to have some respect for that. If he's coaching next year, he's our coach, and we have the right to have him coach whether we exercise our option or we extend him. And I think that was the kind of way of reminding everybody how this is going to work. - Elliotte Friedman Friedman speculates further that the Canucks are negotiating a possible extension with Tocchet and that might be increasing the pressure inside the organization.

As of yet, the team hasn't taken up the option year on Tocchet, nor extended him, further adding fuel to the fire.
