Former coach of the Canucks John Tortorella has been linked to a job with the New York Rangers this offseason, as per NHL insider Darren Dreger. The Philadelphia Flyers have recently parted ways with former Vancouver Canucks coach John Tortorella, putting his NHL future in doubt at the age of 66. Tortorella, notorious for his quick temper, had already suggested that Philadelphia would be his final coaching destination after joining up in 2022. But being fired with less than a dozen games left was probably not the way he envisioned riding off into the sunset.
Tortorella coached the Rangers for five years
Prior to his one-year stint with the Canucks, he headed the New York Rangers for five years, where he coached a young J.T. Miller briefly. Miller, who is back with the Rangers in a trade from Vancouver on Jan. 31, is now on an older roster whose Stanley Cup window is seemingly closing.

Loading from Twitter ...

One NHL source, reported by NHL insider Darren Dreger, believes a reunion in New York is the sole realistic scenario under which Tortorella would coach again, if he even wants to. For me, the New York Rangers are the only team that, right now, makes sense. And the reason I feel like that, and no disrespect to Peter Laviolette, it's because I know that James Dolan, the owner of the New York Rangers, loves John Tortorella. That owner has a ton of clout. Let's see what happens. If they miss the playoffs in New York, all bets are off. Maybe Chris Drury has some vote of confidence that he's coming back as general manager, but I can't be sure of that. I don't know that to be certain. What I do know is you've got a very hands-on, volatile owner who is not going to sit back and say 'Yeah, okay, status quo, that works. I'm comfortable with the way things are.' He does like John Tortorella, so that would be a scenario that does make some sense. - Darren Dreger You can watch Darren Dreger's interview here With coaching whispers rumored, a Vancouver return is unlikely, though Rick Tocchet's future is unclear. Both the Canucks and Rangers are in danger of falling out of playoff contention, which would set up the possibility of a major coaching shake-up.
