Yesterday, we learned the tragic news of a former NHLer's passing.

Reggie Savage Passes Away at 53

Reggie Savage, who played in the NHL between 1990 and 1994 for the Washington Capitals and the Quebec Nordiques, died after a long battle with cancer.

"So sad to hear that Reggie Savage passed away at age 53 after battling cancer. Reggie was a good friend during our two seasons together with the Baltimore Skipjacks. He scored his first NHL goal on a penalty shot & his jersey is on display at the @HockeyHallFame in Toronto. RIP"

"Rest in peace to Reggie Savage following a courageous battle against cancer. Drafted 15th overall by the Capitals in 1988, Reggie was one of the few players in NHL history to score their first career goal on a penalty shot. Condolences to Reggie's family and friends."

"My high school buddy and former @Capitals , @TigresVicto and #nordiquesdequebec player, Reginald Savage has died. He will be missed "

Savage was drafted 15th overall by the Capitals in 1988. In 34 NHL games, he scored 12 points, including 5 goals. However, he left a much bigger mark in the Juniors, scoring 329 points in three seasons with the Victoriaville Tigers in the QMJHL.

He also left an important mark in the AHL, playing 481 games for five different teams over 13 years.

We extend our condolences to all those affected by that tragic loss.
