Unsettling news has emerged from the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League (GOJHL). What we're about to share will undoubtedly boggle your mind, so stay with us.

London Nationals Owner Faces Punishment

Following a probe by the Ontario Hockey Federation, Paul Duarte, owner of the London Nationals, a GOJHL club, has received a two-year suspension.

The investigation revealed that Duarte had made a disturbing proposition of a $100 bounty to his team members to cause an injury to a skater from the opposing team, the Komoka Kings.

The notion that a figurehead in junior hockey could behave so abhorrently is hard to fathom. We express our sheer repulsion at such behavior.

Words from the OHF Executive Director

Phillip McKee, the Executive Director of the Ontario Hockey Federation, offered his thoughts regarding Duarte's suspension from the GOJHL. McKee's comments included:

«We want to make the game a safe and inclusive place for all individuals. Owners are a leader in the game and they must ensure integrity in their conduct at all times.»

It's good to see that the OHF isn't taking this situation lightly, and that they agree with the general public opinion, but a 2 year suspension for something so abhorrent seems very lenient.

Interestingly, the incident, which took place back in 2021, shockingly did not immediately result in Duarte's suspension. He was permitted to retain his role for two subsequent years.
