New Report Indicates Jacob Markstrom Could Be On The Move For A Huge Return

In recent weeks the Calgary Flames have been exploring options for goaltending beyond Jaco Markstrom. With Markstrom in his mid-thirties and the Flames on their way to a potential rebuild, a younger option is needed. In steps top prospect goalie Dustin Wolf.

If Wolf is considered the goalie of the future it is believed that the Flames are now willing to move on from Markstrom this season. One team that has been linked to Markstrom and in need of a goalie is the New Jersey Devils.

If the Devils are going to bring in Markstrom the price could be incredibly steep according to one report.

A new report from James Nichols of New Jersey Hockey Now has suggested that the Devils are interested in Markstrom. If they are going to get the deal done the Devils would need to give up a huge young piece to snag him.

If Simon Nemec or Dawson Mercer is the return needed to land Markstrom it might not be worth it. Unless the Devils think they are just a goalie away from a Stanley Cup even with the loss of a significant player like Nemec or Mercer it could happen. However, it is unlikely that this is where the team is at.

As the trade deadline approaches it will be interesting to see if the price from the Flames comes down. If not a team could be losing a top-tier prospect for the chance to bring him to town.
