Wild Mock Trade Ships Trevor Zegras Out For A First Overall Pick

A wild mock trade that has been circulating the internet suggests that the Anaheim Ducks could move on from forward Trevor Zegras. In return, the team would get a recent first-overall pick.

Ducks Land Former First Overall Pick In Wild Trade

With the recent rumors that the Anaheim Ducks are shopping Trevor Zegras a trade has surfaced that links the Ducks to a former first overall pick. The mock trade submitted would send Zegras to the Montreal Canadiens for Juraj Slafkovsky.

The trade would be a polarizing one for both teams. Each fan base has latched on to the star they would be getting rid of. There are segments of each fan base that would also potentially welcome moving on from either player. The trade has the potential to work out for both sides if it were to ever become real.

Ducks And Canadiens Execute Major Shakeup

The Montreal Canadiens would get the dynamic and skilled player that their forward group seems to be lacking at the moment. Zegras could pair with former USNTDP teammate Cole Caufield and create a highly skilled line atop the Canadiens lineup. This would take pressure off of players like Kirby Dach and Nick Suzuki to carry offensive responsibility as much.

The Anaheim Ducks on the other hand have built a young core around big defensively responsible forwards. Slafkovsky would add to this with his size physicality and ability for offensive upside. The players would both be better culture fits for the way their new team plays.

The difference in who wins the trade would come down to who can exceed potential the most. As of now, both players are projected to be high-end top-six forwards. If either player could escape into the elite category they could win the trade.
