The Calgary Flames have some big decisions to make before the upcoming March 8th trade deadline, and now, it appears they have something else to consider with a major veteran.

Nazem Kadri could request a trade from Calgary

With a talented batch of upcoming Unrestricted Free Agents and a poor start to the 2023-24 season, the Flames appear to be sellers at the upcoming trade deadline, and to most, that would signal the start of a much needed rebuild.
Unfortunately for the Flames, if that does occur, TSN's Darren Dreger has reported that it appears as though one of their most important veterans isn't interested in being with the team.
"Nazem Kadri, as an example, signed that long-term deal as a free agent with the Calgary Flames, well he wants to stay in Calgary, he wants to win with the Flames but if the Flames as an organization progress to a rebuild, he's not interested in that"

The Flames need to stick to their guns and start a rebuild

Despite this, Calgary need to be smart with their rebuild, as they have a solid young core led by Dustin Wolf, Connor Zary, Martin Pospisil, Jakob Pelletier and Matt Coronato, and if they can get some talented pieces back at the deadline, the future could be looking very bright.
Whether or not any other team around the league would take on Kadri's contract is yet to be seen, but with 8 points in 14 games this year, it's clear the 33-year old is still a solid player on the ice, and if he continues that play, a surprise trade either at the deadline or this summer could occur.
