During his press conference, Montreal Canadiens head coach Martin St-Louis answered many questions from reporters, including the major news regarding Cole Caufield.

He made a statement that says it all and we realize that the loss of number 22 is much worse than we thought.
"I talked to the guys and I said the most important thing Cole brings is not his goals, it's his enthusiasm. And that, collectively, is what we need to replace him with." - Martin St. Louis

That really says a lot about the gaping hole Caufield will leave in the Tricolore lineup, especially in a tough season like this year.
Already the players don't have their spirits up in a losing season, with the amount of bad news piling up on the Habs in recent weeks, the loss of a player as dynamic and good-natured as Cole is likely to hurt the team's locker room.
CH fans will also miss his presence, especially since he is a crowd favorite. Journalist Marc-Antoine Godin of The Athletic couldn't have said it better with this statement on Twitter:
"This is some of the worst news this Habs season could produce. Cole Caufield missing the rest of the season due to shoulder surgery is pretty appalling." - Marc-Antoine Godin, The Athletic

So the 22-year-old American free-agent ends his 2022-23 season with 26 goals and 36 points in 46 games. He was on pace to finish the season with a record of 47 goals and 65 points.
