Leaf Fans Turning on Ryan Reaves For Failing To Do His Only Job

Many Leafs fans were sold on the idea that this team would be different over the offseason. With the additions of Ryan Reaves, Max Domi, and Tyler Bertuzzi, surely this team would be tougher and harder to play against. So far that doesn't really seem to be the case, and Leafs fans are catching on.

After Brad Marchand pulled a dirty move on Leafs defenseman Timothy Liljegren in their last game, many Leafs fans were quick to point out how ineffective Reaves has been. He is supposed to be the kind of player that stands up for his teammates in these situations. He's supposed to be the one that drops the gloves to make players regret their choices when the refs fail to do so. Instead, all Reaves did was sit on the bench and send a few chirps towards Brad.

Reaves Paid To Sit On The Bench

When you look at that stats, they could not paint a worse picture for the verteran enforcer. Through ten games, Reaves has given the leafs less than nothing. He's averaging less than eight minutes of ice time a game, he's a -6, and he has zero points on the season. The advanced stats tell an even bleaker story. But at least he's fighting people right? Not since the second game of the season. Reaves famously fought in back-to-back games to start the year, leaving a solid impression on his new teammates. Since then however, he has yet to drop the gloves despite constantly finding ways to get into drama even with 5th line minutes.


What makes matters worse is the fact that Reaves is currently getting a roster spot over players that are actually good at hockey, like Nick Robertson, who has been open about wanting a trade if the Leafs do not call him up. Additionally, Reaves is signed for two years after this one, meaning he could be taking up a valuable spot on the bench for years to come.
