To the surprise of most fans, especially after an atrocious pre-season schedule in which the club did not win a single game, the Habs have been performing very well since the beginning of the season. If on the one hand, many were hoping for another tough season to maximize the Tricolore's selection rank in the next draft and potentially get their hands on Connor Bedard, one must admit that seeing the way this team is winning right now is very reassuring for the rebuilding process. It's essentially the performances of the organization's young players that are lifting this team above .500 so far in terms of wins. Despite a defensive squad that features four rookie defensemen, plus another rookie forward in Juraj Slafkovsky, this team manages to offer surprising competitiveness to other NHL teams. Their play in their first professional season is quite impressive. In this sense, a mind-boggling statistic was recently presented that proves that the future of the Canadiens is bright. The Montreal club has the best production in the entire National League from its players aged 23 and under. They have scored 36 points since the beginning of the season, two points more than the Ottawa Senators, who are in second place.

Of course, the majority of those points have been produced by the duo of the hour: Cole Caufiled and Nick Suzuki. Nevertheless, their impressive production reminds us that we will be treated to this for many years to come in Montreal. Even if the Tricolore's performance hurts their chances of getting a top pick in the next draft, there are still several things to keep in mind. Kent Hughes has five first round picks in the next three drafts at the moment, including two in 2023. So they'll have their hands full adding a healthy dose of top tier talent just the same. Also, with some older players like Sean Monahan and Christian Dvorak performing well, they could bring back something big around the trade deadline, and the same is true if the CH decides to place a healthy Joel Edmundson on the trade market. So there are still plenty of opportunities to go after some interesting assets for the organization's future. Also, don't forget that the youngsters already on the team must also develop and that stringing together high-volume losses affects the confidence and morale of the players and that can influence the proper development of some of these youngsters. The good atmosphere that reigns in the Habs right now, which comes essentially from the many young players on the team, is ultra beneficial for the development of the latter. The future is bright for the CH, even if the Habs don't draft Connor Bedard!
