The latest NHL draft was full of twists and turns, especially during the early selections, as the man who was projected to go first overall, Shane Wright, eventually slipped to the fourth selection made by the Seattle Kraken.

At that point, many wondered what could have happened that a player who was unanimous enough to at least go in the top two picks could have slipped so far down the draft board.

Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman revealed a major factor that worked against the Kingston Frontenacs' captain in the draft.

The fact that Wright didn't play much during the pandemic, and that he decided not to move to Europe to get quality playing time, greatly penalized his draft rank.

It is very plausible that in addition to losing an important year of his development, the fact that he had a sub-par season did not work in his favor to reassure the Canadiens, Devils and Coyotes executives.

Let's just say it helps to further understand the reason for his fall during his draft.
