The Edmonton Oilers were expected to be one of, if not the best team in the West this season, but with poor play on the blue line and in net, this is a team that's struggled mightily through almost three months.

For months now, Oilers fans have been begging for a move in net, as Jack Campbell regressed further while Stuart Skinner struggled, and thus far, we've seen nothing.

That is reportedly about to change however, as the team are preparing to call up AHL star Olivier Rodrigue at some point in January after his stellar 5-2-3 record this season with a 2.25 GAA and a .923 save percentage.

Stauffer said on Oilers Now that he expects two moves on the forwards and a resolution in goal very soon
- He said Holland scouted the Condors tonight and really pumped Rodrigue. He agreed with Brian Lawton about calling up Olivier Rodrigue this month

No massive trade coming anytime soon?

While this could be a solid move, we saw what happened to a rookie Skinner in the playoffs a season ago, and if the Oilers believe they are just a goaltender away from a deep Stanley Cup run, then the trade market may be the best option.

With names like Juuse Saros, Jacob Markstrom and others potentially available, the Oilers need to decide soon whether they're going all in or being patient in net, and thus far, it appears the impending promotion of Rodrigue proves they're giving him a chance before a big move is made.
