The Edmonton Oilers start to the 2023-24 campaign has been less than ideal, but with the return of Connor McDavid and added depth, things may now be looking up.

A former Oilers top pick

After being drafted with the No. 6 overall pick back in 2007, forward Sam Gagner has played in 542 games with the team in his career, tallying 317 points during two separate stints.
Beyond that, Gagner's career has panned out well, as his overall numbers now sit at 1,015 career games with 519 points, and he's bringing that experience back to Oil Country.

Depth addition

After signing a PTO with the Oilers in the pre-season, Gagner is officially back with Edmonton on a one-year deal worth $775,000.
The Oilers will be signing Sam Gagner to replace Adam Erne, per Jay Woodcroft.
It's unlikely that he'll play a massive role for the team throughout the year, but he can bring valuable experience to the team, and at that cap hit, this could end up being a fantastic move for Edmonton.
