Edmonton Oilers Looking at Veteran Goaltender in Desperate Effort to Find Replacement for Jack Campbell

The Edmonton Oilers are becoming desperate to find a replacement for Jack Campbell, as they are now reportedly in talks with this 17-year NHL veteran.

Edmonton Oilers Reportedly in Talks with Halak in Attempt to Replace Campbell

The Edmonton Oilers are doing everything in their power to try and turn their season around. Unfortunately, that meant sending down their $5 million AAV goaltender to the minors, leaving them with a gaping hole in their roster between the pipes.

Jack Campbell repping an 0.820 SV% in 3 AHL games seems less than ideal.

Now, it has been reported that they are in talks with 17-year NHL veteran Jaroslav Halak as a potential replacement for Campbell, according to Pierre LeBrun. LeBrun does caution, though, that the Oilers are in contact with pretty much every goalie that is available at the moment.

LeBrun on Insider Trading says the Oilers have talked to Jaroslav Halak, although don't read too much into it because the Oilers have been looking into every possible goalie option out there.

Is Halak What the Oilers Need or Is He A Desperation Move?

Halak was recently signed to a PTO in Carolina, trying to compete for the third goaltending position while Frederik Anderson is out on a long-term injury. He was just let go from the Hurricanes and did not get any playing time with the club.

Halak released from PTO in Carolina. Could he be an option for the #Oilers?

Halak had a decent year last season, playing 25 games and recording a 2.7 goals-against average and a .903 save percentage. Stewart Skinner, the Oilers current option in net, has a 3.39 goals against average and a .873 save percentage. It seems like Halak might be the right move for the Oilers, at least for the time being.
